Keep Up With Us.

,Now, you might think that spending over 41 days aboard a rowing boat, with no space, and no option to get off the boat, that the team might be a bit fed up of each other by now........but you'd be wrong! πŸ’–
β€’
A bond was formed on this boat, and it's a bond unlike any other. πŸ”—
β€’
Peter, Pat, Scott and Brendan, they've been through something that nobody else witnessed, and most of us cannot fathom. The physical hardships, the psychological hardship, but also the stunning seascapes, and the sheer beauty of the solitude. It is unlike any other experience. And for 41 days, 1 hour and 57 minutes, that experience was theirs. πŸ™Œ
β€’
As Peter says; We did a thing. We did it together. It could not have been done any other way. πŸ’™
β€’
Shortly after this toast yesterday, the team began their travels home. It's been an amazing journey to follow, BUT we now have all their onboard footage back, and so over the course of the next few weeks we'll take a look at some of the footage they weren't able to send back via satellite, to get a small window into the highs and lows of their amazing journey. πŸͺŸ
β€’
Please remember that the team are still aiming to reach their phenomenal target of $28 million. Until August 31st ALL donations to @michaeljfoxorg will be TRIPLE MATCHED, meaning your donation is worth FOUR TIMES AS MUCH! An incredibly powerful photograph. πŸ“Έ
β€’
The men we've followed for so long, showed so much strength during their crossing. We've been amazed at how they've managed to continue on, under such challenging circumstances. We may have even put them on a pedestal as an example of what true strength is. πŸ™Œ
β€’
But, just moments after making land we see them all being helped up the beach by their loved ones - unable to walk properly. 😯
β€’
It is a clear representation of the journey that the entire family of these men have been on, and an important snapshot of what true strength, and pure love, is. The people that the men are clinging on to, are everything to them, and vice versa. Their strength is found in each other, and their love is a pure bond. πŸ’ž
β€’
During the row and in the post-row interviews, Pat drew metaphors between the ocean crossing and Parkinson's. And it is so true; people with a diagnosis, are in a fight to keep themselves mobile and healthy, to not let their symptoms take over, but that fight extends to every single individual that loves that person with Parkinson's.
β€’
We must, as a compassionate community, help the researchers find a cure for this condition.
β€’
Please donate today. Your money will be triple matched by our anonymous donor, so will make four times the difference. Together we can assign this condition to the realm of history books.

Ahhh, American Spirit has been cleaned up, and she's looking nice and shiny again! 🧽
β€’
Living aboard this boat for so long, with limited cleaning facilities, and having to carry all the garbage with you...it gets quite smelly. 🀒
β€’
Ocean rowers tend to go 'nose blind' and not be able to smell it out there. Generally when we notice a smell, it's more that we're noticing a CHANGE in smell, a bit like when you walk into a teenagers bedroom that they have been festering in for too long and it smells, but they can't smell it! Out on the water, there was no new rooms to walk into, so any odour from the garbage, or the rotting flying fish will have gone unnoticed. πŸ‘ƒ
β€’
Back on land though, after a shower and a good long sleep, the boat definitely will have smelt bad when they returned to it to empty it out! Often rowers report towers of flies above them as they go about removing 6 weeks worth of grime! πŸͺ°
β€’
Thankfully this job is now done, American Spirit is cleaned down, and is looking absolutely pristine! She's now prepared to be shipped home. πŸ™Œ

If you had an eye on any of the other teams in the race, you'll have noticed Liz and Lena. A pairs team that actually led the race for a long time. Their crossing was incredible, and Lena became the youngest person to row the Pacific, aged just 17! πŸ™Œ
β€’
Liz though, is doing something that is blowing our minds... 🀯
β€’
She actually rowed in the Atlantic version of the World's Toughest Row as a solo, earlier this year. When she got to the end she was asked if she'd like to row the Pacific in just a few months time...amazingly she said yes, and we've watched her and Lena do just that. πŸ˜ƒ
β€’
Liz is from Papua New Guinea, and she now needs to get her boat home. A normal person would send it on a ship. But Liz...is going to ROW HOME! 😲
β€’
4,300 miles, further than either the Atlantic or the Pacific race, completely on her own! 🀯🀯
β€’
The whole fleet have been incredibly supportive, offering her their left over food and any kit she requires. It's an amazing story, and you can follow her on the YB Races app, just look for the race called: "World's Toughest Row - Explorer 2024". πŸ—ΊοΈοΈ
β€’
Lend her your support, this incredible human being is doing something wonderful! πŸ™Œ
